Braised Two Cabbage Shaved Steak Casserole

Maple Leaf Sliced Steak 1.5 kg 3.3 Lbs
Red Cabbage, Fresh, shredded 650 g 1.4 Lbs
Green Cabbage, Fresh, shredded 650 g 1.4 Lbs
Onions, Fresh, sliced thinly like cabbage 200 g 7 oz
Garlic Powder 30 mL 2 Tbsp
Tomato Sauce 1.2 L 5.1 cups
Parmesan Cheese, grated 50 g 1.8 oz
Salt (add to tomato sauce) 20 mL 1.3 Tbsp


  • 1. Combine the shredded cabbages and onions for colour effect. Add salt, Parmesan cheese and garlic powder to the tomato sauce.
  • 2. In a large pan, layer the ingredients in the following order, cover the bottom of the pan with a thin layer of tomato sauce, add the shredded cabbage and 1/2 of the remaining tomato sauce. Add the shaved steak over the cabbage. Top with the remaining tomato sauce.
  • 3. Cover pan(s) with foil and bake in a preheated 350 F oven for 45 minutes or until the cabbage is tender, heating the beef to an internal temperature of 165 F (74 C).

Suggested Accompaniments

Garnish with finely shredded carrrot or red pepper for colour.

Serve with pasta or steamed rice.
